The Judicial Council is a judicial body constituted by the Constitution of Nepal. The provisions relating to the Judicial Council are mentioned under Article 153 of the Constitution. There are a total of five members in the Judicial Council headed by the Chief Justice.
The Judicial Council consists Chief Justice and four other members including the Federal Minister for Law and Justice, senior-most Judges of the Supreme Court, one jurist nominated by the President on the recommendation of the Prime Minister, and a senior advocate having twenty years of experience nominated by the President on the recommendation of Nepal Bar Association.
According to the Constitution of Nepal, the Judicial Council performs functions relating to recommendations for the appointment of judges, transfer of judges, taking disciplinary actions against judges, dismissing judges from their posts, and other matters related to the administration of justice.

Functions, Duties, and Powers of the Judicial Council
In addition to the functions, duties, and powers as mentioned in the Constitution, the functions, duties, and powers of the Judicial Council are as mentioned under Section 33 of the Judicial Council Act, 2073 as follows:
(A) To make recommendations or provide counseling on the issues of judicial administration,
(B) To carry on or to cause to carry on study and research in the subject of judicial administration,
(C) To give necessary direction to the concerned authority in the subjects including curriculum about training and instruction of the Judge,
(D) To draft and enforce a Code of Conduct to be abided by the Judges,
(E) To perform other prescribed functions.
